FCAT Writing Plus results show students in Brevard County and across the state struggled with the tests newer multiple-choice section compared with the essay portion.In each grade tested, more than three-quarters of Florida students and more than 80 percent of Brevard students scored on or above grade level on the essay. But a far smaller percentage of students — including fewer than half in the eighth grade — scored on or above grade level on the overall writing test that included the multiple-choice section.“I dont think we were that prepared for it,” Collin McAliley, an eighth-grader at Cocoa Beach Jr./Sr. High, said of the multiple-choice section. “But I thought it was pretty easy.”
But then, Collin, 2006 Discovery Channel Young Scientist Challenge Finalist may not exactly be a representative student to ask about the difficulty of the FCAT.
